List of Carbs to Avoid to Lose Weight

You are what you eat! This saying is right in all its senses, especially considering the number of lifestyle diseases that are becoming prevalent among urbanites due to unhealthy food intake. Weight gain has increased manifold and is affecting millions of people worldwide. Researchers and dieticians suggest that this is due to large amounts of carb intake that people are becoming used to on a daily basis.  

If you want to take charge of your health, here is a list of carbs to avoid to lose weight.

Bread and Grains

Bread contains high amounts of carb that can result in weight gain if consumed on a daily basis. While for some people, the weight gain might not happen immediately, high amounts of bread intake definitely results in other health issues. If you are looking to lose weight, it is best advised to control the intake of bread. It is also ideal to have home-made or freshly baked bread instead of packaged variety. Certain grains like rice, wheat, and even oats could result in weight gain because of the carb content. These need to be limited, especially if you are on a weight loss program.

Sugar and Starch

Sugar is present in all kinds of packaged food and is high on cards. This could mean that you are consuming high amounts of carb even if you drink a can of diet cola! In order to lose weight and control carbs, it is best to avoid any kind of packaged food or drinks. Even the packets that suggest zero oil or fat-free should be avoided because of the hidden carbs that can harm your health. Starchy foods like potato and corn can also be avoided because of the high levels of carbs in them. Try to consume vegetables like spinach, broccoli and cabbage, which are low in carbs.


It might be difficult to completely stop alcohol consumption, especially if you have been having it socially. However, in order to lose weight, you need to control the carbs and alcohol like beer that contain high amounts of it. If you are unable to give it up completely, you can ensure restriction. If you have been losing weight constantly, this could be a hindrance and might actually result in weight gain. Alcohol consumption also results in bloating sometimes and hence it is best avoided.

Salad Dressings

You will find a lot of low-fat and fat-free salad dressings in the market. These could taste great when added on top of a boring salad. However, these are only marketing gimmicks of most food manufacturing companies. These salad dressings have high-calorie content because of the added sugar and this information is usually kept hidden from consumers. If you like your salad with some dressing, it is best to go for a home-made dressing instead of a store-bought one. This way, you will be able to know the amount of sugar that gets added to your salad and can even control the same.


Restricting of carb intake could be tough initially, but once you see the health benefits and the increased energy levels, you will be motivated to adopt it as a lifestyle. Losing weight could be easier if you restrict carbs and will also feel fresher at all times. It is about finding the right balance instead of completely eliminating carbs from your diet.
